An Overdue Life Update

It's been quite a while since I've written anything on Home in the Hollow Blog. I've missed writing, but have found myself either without the creativity or time to share. That being said, it is way past time for a life update. I'm excited to share what's been going on and hopefully (if all goes to plan) I'll be back to blogging more consistently.

The biggest life update is that Caleb and I welcomed a sweet baby boy into our family this spring. Needless to say, it's been a huge life adjustment and not without many ups and downs. Motherhood is not for the faint of heart - that's for sure! I am learning to enjoy this new life and have grown a lot through the process. At 7 months old CW is quite an active boy and is keeping us on our toes. He's a speedy crawler and gets himself into trouble faster than I can blink ( just the other day I found him happily chomping, chewing, and slobbering on my missing list). CW is a morning person. Thinks the word "lizard" is worth a hardy belly laugh. And is happiest when he is outside taking in the sights of the world while cozy in his baby carrier. Chore time and walks are pure magic dancing in his little eyes. Life with CW is definitely an adventure and we're excited to see the plans God has for him.
On the farm we are slowly (and somewhat painfully) growing our beef herd. We now have 5 cows and recently sent 2 feeders to market with another 3 to go later this season. We had 3 calves this fall and hope to have 2 more healthy calves later this year. My theme for 2025 calf names is "gemstones." So far, we have an Opal, Onyx, and Emerald. Feel free to leave a calf name suggestion for us in the comments!

My garden this year was kind of a flop. It turns out you can't get very much done with a newborn. We managed to get onions and some sparse kale this spring. I attempted to start a fall garden and we are enjoying fresh radishes, lettuce, and have beets and carrots well on the way. My planting of fall peas hasn't been overly fruitful. There are lots of blooms but hardly any pea pods. Maybe it's because there aren't many pollinators out and about this time of year? Any thoughts?

Last year with Home in the Hollow I had the opportunity to offer 2 different live "classes" in our 1800's tobacco barn workshop. One at Christmas time making fresh wreaths and bows. And another over the summer working with fresh flowers grown by my very own sisters. I am happy to announce that we will be offering another wreath workshop on November 29th 2025. If you have any interest, please send me an email or leave a comment letting me know. I love creating these classes and helping people to embrace their creativity in a fun and inspiring environment. I am hoping to offer more seasonal classes throughout the year.
A special thank you to everyone who has helped and encouraged us through this last year + of transition and change. Becoming a mom has taught me to value (even more) the incredible gift of community. So, thank you for being part of mine!
With love and gratitude,
Abby
